Ethernet for Business

Ethernet for Business Provides Speed and Flexibility

Ethernet internet connections have evolved over the years and may be the perfect option for your business.

There are two types of Ethernet developments:

Type 1

One type of Ethernet is the local-area network (LAN) connection. This type of Ethernet uses a bus or star topology and supports data transfer rates of 10 Mbps. The Ethernet specification served as the basis for the IEEE 802.3 standard, which specifies the physical and lower software layers. Ethernet uses the CSMA/CD access method to handle simultaneous demands. It is one of the most widely implemented LAN standards.

Type 2

A newer version of Ethernet, called 100Base-T (or Fast Ethernet), supports data transfer rates of 100 Mbps. And the newest version, Gigabit Ethernet supports data rates of 1 gigabit (1,000 megabits) per second. The Fast Ethernet, has become a prefered way to deliver cost effective Internet service. Many carriers have been upgrading their networks to include Ethernet. Today Ethernet is in most Tier 1 cities ensuring speed and reliability.

Table of Ethernet Speeds:

Ethernet Availability from Central Office switch
Speed Pairs Max Distance from Central office switch(ft)
3 Meg 3 8000
5 Meg 3 8000
10 Meg 5 9000
10 Meg 8 11000
15 Meg 8 9000
20 Meg 8 7000
Ethernet over Serial. Is a method that uses bonded T1s to deliver various Bandwidth speeds.
Example: 10 Meg Ethernet over serial (DS1) uses 7 T1s.

Ethernet has built in redundancy. If one pair of copper is down or if one the T1s is down the others service keeps on working. This gives the business a form of backup.
